Ghana Football Association Technical Director Bernhard Lippert will be serving as the interim head Coach for the Black Stars.

The German takes over from CK Akonnor who has been sacked by the Football Association.

Akonnor, together with his assistants David Duncan and Patrick Greveraars had their job relinquished following Ghana’s 1-0 defeat to South Africa in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Lippert will now take over the team in Ghana’s subsequent matches until a new Coach is appointed.

The Ghana Football appointed the former Kotoko and Hearts of Oak Coach in 2020 after the exit of Kwesi Appiah.

He (CK Akonnor) went on to supervise the Black Stars in 10 matches, of which he managed just 4 wins and lost 4 with two games ending in stalemates.

The situation means Lippert will be on the bench when Ghana takes on Zimbabwe in three weeks’ time.

Previously, the 59-year-old had only served as a caretaker and assistant Coach for German Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt.

He has also managed the youth teams of Azerbaijan.
