Former Norwich City and Brighton & Hove Albion manager, Chris Hughton is in Ghana ahead of possibly taking over vacant Black Stars coaching job, sources say.

The Irish trainer is among a number of coaches listed as possible candidates to take over the managerial job following the sacking of Milovan Rajevac on Wednesday, January 26 after a dismal Africa Cup of Nations campaign that saw the Black Stars collect just a solitary point from their three group games.

Christopher William Gerard Hughton, 63, born in England is of Ghanaian heritage through his father Willie, an Irish mother, Christine and played for Northern Ireland during his football career.

Chris Hughton who is expected to have a meeting with the executive council of the Ghana Football Association said after taking a courtesy call on the Gbese Manste, Ni Ayi-Bonte II, last Thursday that he was delighted to be back home.

“Predominantly, the reason I’m here is to see family, my Father is from Jamestown and this will be a very proud moment for him.

Meanwhile, Chris Hughton faces competition for the vacancy from Borussia Dortmund no.2, Otto Addo who the Ghanaian Football Association (GFA) had seemed happy to appoint on an interim basis ahead of next month's two-legged World Cup playoff with Nigeria after Milovan Rajevac's second spell in charge lasted just four months.
