WhatsApp beta for Android 2.22.6.5: what’s new?

WhatsApp is rolling out a new update through the Google Play Beta Program, bringing the version up to 2.22.6.5.

What’s new in this update? WhatsApp is testing a new feature that allows creating links to join WhatsApp calls, for a future update!

After introducing a new interface when placing voice calls on WhatsApp beta for Android 2.22.5.4, WhatsApp is now working on a new feature for Last year, WhatsApp has introduced several improvements to voice and video calls, bringing the ability to join WhatsApp group calls even if the call is already started.

Today, thanks to the new WhatsApp beta for Android 2.22.6.5 update, we have discovered new references about the next feature available in a future update: call links! Since it’s possible to join a WhatsApp group call even if the call is already started, WhatsApp is making it even easier to join, by using call links. You will be able to create a call link right within your contacts list and you can share it with anyone, even with non-contacts!

This feature is different from the old Messenger Rooms shortcut: anyone could join a Messenger Room, even without a Facebook account: when you create a WhatsApp call link, the call is hosted on WhatsApp, so it’s secured by end-to-end encryption, and it’s needed a WhatsApp account to join. Since this feature is under development, you cannot create call links right now, but WhatsApp is working on releasing this feature in a future update. There will be another changelog on this website when WhatsApp is releasing the feature.
