Newcastle United head coach Eddie Howe wants to sign Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount, according to The Sun.

The report in the British tabloid has claimed that Manchester City are keen on signing Mount from Premier League rivals Chelsea.

The Blues are worried that the £70,000-a-week England international midfielder could be tempted to leave, maybe not this summer, but in 2023, if they are unable to tie him down to a lucrative contract.

The Sun have reported that Newcastle head coach Howe is keen on signing the 23-year-old midfielder in the future and is watching development on his future ‘with interest’.

Howe reportedly wanted to sign the 23-year-old on loan from Bournemouth.

In our opinion, signing Mount in the next one or two years would be a coup for Newcastle.

We do not think that Newcastle will be able to sign the English player this summer.

However, if the Magpies continue to invest in the team and start challenging for the Premier League top four, then they could be very appealing to Mount in the next two or three years.

Now, we have to make it clear that Chelsea are a rich club who are not going to sell their best players without asking for a lot in transfer fees.

Mount is enjoying himself at Chelsea, and the midfielder may not be willing to leave the Blues anytime soon.
