One of the stakeholders of the Sports fraternity in Ghana, the Sports Writers Association (SWAG) has  counsels Ghana Football Association (GFA) on the search of a head coach for the national men's team the Black Stars. SWAG in their recent press release call on the GFA to look beyond the appointment of a new Black Stars Coach.

Read the press statement below:
The Sports Writers A ssociation of Ghana (SWAG) is appalled by the dismal, necessitous and deficient
performance of the senior national team of Ghana, the Black Stars which failed to go beyond the group stage of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) ongoing in Cote D'voire.

The SWAG notcs with uter disappointment and heartbreaking that a 'team that once rubbed shoulders with the powerhouses of A frican football is today struggling to find its feet in the AFCON. The public anger over Black Stars' continuous failure and for second consccutive time, failing to advance firom the group stage of AFCON is shattering and a " negative carry".

While SWAG takes account of the attempts by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MOYS) to halt the string of embarrassing AFCON shows by the Black Stars, we are convinced that the route taken especially by the GFA to form a committee to search for a new Black Stars coach is rushed, diversion and a travesty, an action which will not sufficiently address the team's wretchedness and complications.

Four coaches in barely five years without results speak of a larger problem, hence the appointment of a new coach, in S'WAG's considered view cannot be the panacea for the team's unending headaches.

Player selection, commitment, lack of desire to fight in the national team iersey with many other varied issues including how both the GFA and the MOYS plan for ouri national tcams, not.] just the Black Stars are major concerns.

SWAG therefore calls for a deeper soul-searching approach directed at tackling fundamental issues of the national team management. player selection. coaching. performance, etc.

We believe. the GFA. backed by the MOYS must have a stronger response to the humiliation the country is suffering because of the Black Stars' poor outings. SWAG maintains that the GFA must go beyond merely appointing a new coach which is a minor of the many problems.

The SWAG implores the MOYS to also end the rhetoric and engage the GFA to properly find solutions to the Black Stars's abysmal showing in recent times.

The SWAG further urges its members to continue thcir relentles cfforts to demand the best for the entirety of Ghana football and give counsel to the GFA not to divert attention nor pin blame but admit the challenges and initiate the process to deal with the underlying factor leading to our lucklustre showing and performance decline.
