In a thrilling encounter on Thursday in Bamako, Ghana’s Black Stars secured their first win of 2024, stunning Mali with a 2-1 victory on matchday three of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifications.

The match at Stade du Mars saw Ghana display remarkable resilience, coming from behind to clinch a crucial win. Mali took the lead just before half-time, capitalizing on a defensive error by Ghana, with Kamory Doumbia finding the net.

However, the second half saw strategic changes from Ghana's manager, Otto Addo, which turned the tide. Youngster Ernest Nuamah equalized with a header from a well-placed cross by Salis Abdul Samed, bringing hope to the Black Stars.
Despite Bournemouth’s Antoine Selorm Semenyo missing several scoring opportunities, the introduction of Jordan Ayew proved decisive. Ayew, coming on as a substitute, created a great chance for Thomas Partey, who failed to score. But Ayew did not disappoint, seizing a defensive error by Mali to net the winning goal in stoppage time.
Standings in Group I

With this victory, Ghana now sits in second place in Group I, tied on points with leaders Comoros, who are yet to play their third match. The Black Stars will next face the Central African Republic at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi on Monday, June 10, 2024.
