The African Open 2024 PRO Fight Night launched Decathlon Ghana’s Kawukudi, Ghana - Thursday, 5th September 2024: 

The stage is set for the African Open 2024 PRO Fight Night following a grand launch held at Decathlon Ghana's Kawukudi branch. The event attracted key stakeholders in the sport, including the President of the Ghana Kickboxing and Combat Sports Association Yakubu Abdul Razak and the Vice President, Steavano Tuekpe, who also doubles as the organiser of the event.

The launch ceremony was graced by several kickboxers slated to compete in the much-anticipated event, which will take place at the Accra Sports Stadium. In his address, Mr. Steavano Tuekpe reiterated his commitment to shedding more light on the sport of kickboxing in Ghana, bringing the fighters into the spotlight, and promoting kickboxing as a valuable form of self-defence.

"We aim to push the sport of kickboxing to greater heights, taking it to an international level where our athletes can compete globally and bring home world titles," Mr. Tuekpe stated. He also highlighted that the tournament presents a significant opportunity for local fighters to sign contracts with the International Federation of Kickboxing, thereby opening doors for international exposure.

This year's edition of the African Open will feature a mix of combat sports, including boxing, kickboxing, and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), promising an electrifying display of strength, skill, and endurance. Steavano Tuekpe, also the Vice President of WKU Africa, emphasized that this year’s event, just like the previous one, will be organized under the authority of the World Kickboxing Union (WKU).

The 2023 inaugural African Open, held in Tema, was a resounding success, showcasing five combat sports: taekwondo, karate, judo, kickboxing, and MMA. Among the standout performances were Joe Lamptey in MMA and Serlom Darko in kickboxing, who both dazzled spectators with their abilities. The event was attended by notable figures such as Nii Adotey Dzata I, also known as Joe Mingle, the former president of the Ghana Kickboxing Association.

As the 2024 edition approaches, all eyes are on the Accra Sports Stadium, which will host some of the fiercest and most promising talents in the combat sports world. The tournament not only provides an opportunity for athletes to display their skills but also to catapult their careers onto the international stage.

Tickets for the event on Saturday will be available at an affordable price of GHC 20, with special VVIP seating also up for grabs for those looking to enjoy the action from a premium vantage point. The atmosphere is expected to be charged as fans anticipate thrilling bouts from some of Ghana's finest fighters and contenders from across the continent.
